What We're Reading

I'm excited to be participating in a neat little link up. All about the books. Love the books. All the books.

What's on my nightstand-

The Distant Hours (Kate Morton)- LOVE Kate Morton. Love love love. I have only read one book by her before this (The Forgotten Garden which I highly recommend) but I enjoy her so much and can tell she is going to become a favorite.

The Night Circus (Erin Morgenstern)- I was surprised to find out that this was a NaNoWriMo novel! How cool. I've heard lots of great things and I'm only like 10 pages in but I'm feeling it.

What I'm reading with the kids-

Into the Land of the Unicorns (Bruce Coville)- Alice and I just finished this up last night and it's just as cool as I remember from being a kid. It was a super magical experience to read one of my favorite books from my childhood with my own little girl. Especially since this was our first chapter book together. If you haven't read The Unicorn Chronicles, what are you waiting on! It's magical. Even for adults. I love me some children's lit and Bruce Coville is the master.

Gregor the Overlander (Suazanne Collins)- Ollie and I are taking a small break from the world of Percy Jackson to enjoy another young boy hero. I'm not entirely sure that Oliver is really into this one, at least not as much as Percy Jackson, but we're steadily making our way through. I think we're finally at the part where the action starts so that will help his little boy imagination go wild.

Go check out the other links! Get some bookish inspiration!

  1. so if it's a NaNoWriMo novel, does that mean it was written as part of NaNoWriMo in a month? I've never really looked into it, so that might be a stupid question lol. i'll be interested to see what you think, i think i'm the only person who disliked that book.

    1. Yeah, it was a book written during NaNoWriMo. :) Which I find fascinating. I still find the idea of writing a whole novel in a month to be insane and also cool.

I liked The Night Circus. It requires suspending belief, of course, but I did enjoy it.

I'll have to check out that Kate Morton.

    1. I highly recommend The Forgotten Garden if you like books with an element of history that also goes back and forth in time. Morton is really great with that. :)

  3. I'm an American living in Australia. This year I participated (and finished) an Aussie Authors Book Challenge. I'm already thinking about what Aussie authors to read next year for the challenge. Kate Morton is one of them.

  4. I did not know The Night Circus was a NaNo book. I've been finding that more and more often, like with Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. It's pretty awesome.

    Thanks for joining us!
